Audience Feedback

In the lesson today I was given the task to analyse and evaluate the feedback that I received from the audience when they filled in my questionnaire.

This is the questionnaire:

1. What is your favourite thing on my music magazine front cover?

2. Do you think that the colour scheme matches the style of my magazine? If no, please state why.

3. Looking at the front cover, what impressions do you get of the artist, Becky Byrne?

4. On the contents page, what is the main thing that attracts your attention and why?

5. Do you like the way in which the contents page has been set out?

6. On the contents page, what do you think of the image of Becky Byrne?

7. If you could change one thing on the magazine contents page, what would it be and why?

8. Looking at the double page spread, what impressions do you get of the band?

9. Do you like the way in which everything has been spread out on the double page spread?

10. If you could change one thing on the double page spread, what would it be and why?

ANALYSIS
Once my questionnaires had been filled out, I analysed the feedback and created my results. I have tried to use various methods of presenting my feedback.

1. What is your favourite thing on my music magazine front cover?
The most favouritable things that were on my questionnaires were:
  • The Title: because it is big, bold and colourful which makes it stand out.
  • The image of Becky Byrne :because it is in the middle of tha page and attracts their attention
  • The Coverlines: because they are of well known/recognisable artists

2. Do you think that the colour scheme matches the style of my magazine? If no, please state why.
I received a lot of positive feedback for this question. 19 out of 20 people said that the colours did match the style and genre of the magazine. However 1 person said that although it did match, the colours could be portraying the maagzine a rock magazine.

3. Looking at the front cover, what impressions do you get of the artist, Becky Byrne?
For this question I again received a lot of positive feedback. The majority of the audience have perceived Becky in the way I wanted them too. The most common words to describe Becky were:
  • Confident
  • Arrogant
  • Quirky
  • Different
  • Unique
  • An individual style
  • Funky
  • Quite strong minded, makes her own decisions
This is exactly how I wanted the audience to perceive Becky, as this is what I was aiming for when taking the pictures.

4. On the contents page, what is the main thing that attracts your attention and why?
I also received a lot of positive feedback on this question, which I am pleased with. The audiences comments were:
  • The image of Becky Byrne
  • The column of text
  • Alll of the images
  • The red boxes containing on the cover, features and regulars

5. Do you like the way in which the contents page has been set out?
17 out of 20 people said that they did like the way in which the contents page was set out. Some of the comments were:
  • I like it because there is not too much writing, and plenty of pictures.
  • I like it because it is layed out neatly and everything is clear to read.
  • I like the way the everything is in line and has its own space on the page, is isnt squashed together
However, 3 out of the 20 said that they didnt like the way in which the contents page was set out. Their comments were:
  • I think that it has been laid out well, but I think the pictures should be spaced out over the page rather than squashed together on the one side.
  • Some of the pictures need to be bigger because they are not very clear to see.
  • The title of the page should be bigger.

6. On the contents page, what do you think of the image of Becky Byrne?
I also received positive feedback for this question,  only 1 out of 20 people said that they didnt like the image. Some of the comments were:
  • I like it because it shows a different side to Becky, its shows that she is quite vulnerable, which is good because it enables the audience/reader to relate to her.
  • I like the image because it allows you to see a different side to Becky, also you can see her shoes more clearly, which are very nice.
The 1 person that didnt like the image said that:
  • Although Becky is in a different position, it doesnt show variety as it has the same background.

7. If you could change one thing on the magazine contents page, what would it be and why?
The feedback that I received on this question was quite positive and not harsh in the slightest. The audiences' comments were:
  • Use a background colour (other than white)
  • Make the title and the word contents a big bigger
  • Make the font a little bigger so its easier to read
  • Make the images a little more interesting, maybe include musical instruments

8. Looking at the double page spread, what impressions do you get of the band?
I am happy with the commments that were made on this question. A lot of the comments were:
  • Funny
  • Weird
  • Strange, but in a good way
  • Energetic
  • Like to have fun
  • Always have a laugh
  • Dont take life too seriously
  • Enjoy what they do
Although they were described as weird and strange, I am pleased with this, because I wanted to portray them as a fun loving, energetic, happy-smiley band thadont take life too seriously. On the contents page I used an image where they were being serious and had straight faces, so I thought I wouold show their fun-loving side on the double page spread.

9. Do you like the way in which everything has been spread out on the double page spread?
For this question I received both negative and postive feedback. 14 out of 20 people said that they did like the was in which it was set out, however 6 people said that they didnt. Their reasons for this were:
  • The pictures were too cramped on one page
  • There was too much writing
  • Text was too close together

10. If you could change one thing on the double page spread, what would it be and why?
The feedback on this question was mainly about the pictures rather than the text. Although a few people said that they would have liked the text a little bit bigger or more spaced out, some people said  that they would have prefered a few less pictures. Again, another popular comments was to have a background colour other than white to make it s little less plain and more exciting to look at.
