Quark Express Production Process

In the lesson today I was given the task of starting the production of my school magazine contents page, by using Quark Express:

Stage 1
Firstly, I opened up a blank document in Quark. I typed into the settings box that i wanted 3 columns.Everything I need to produce my contents page is along the left hand side toolbar, or along the bottom.

Stage 2
Secondly, I inserted the school logo by; drawing a picture box, right click insert image, from file. I then clicked right click on the mouse, and there was an option 'Fit picture to box', I clicked it. This then adjusted both the picture and box, so that the picture fit perfectly into the picture box. Next, I drew a text box and typed in CONTENTS. I moved this to where I wanted it to be. I then changed the size/font etc by using the tool box along the bottom.

Stage 3
Thirdly, I added the text to the 'Features' section/column, along with the images. I added the text by drawing a text box (the size of the column) and typing in what I wanted. Again, i could make text bolder, bigger, changed the font etc by using the tool box along the bottom. To insert the images, I had to draw a picture box (the size i wanted the picture to be), right click on the mouse; insert image, from file. I then clicked right click on the picture, and again, there was an option 'Fit picture to box', I clicked it. This then adjusted both the picture and box, so that the picture fit perfectly into the picture box. I repeated this process for all 3 images.

Stage 4
Next, I added the text to the 'Regulars' section/column. Again, I did this by drawing the text box the size of the column, and typing in the text I wanted. I changed the font/size of the text by using the toolbox at the bottom. I also added page numbers before the heading, this is so that the readers know which article/story is on which page, and then can go straight to it rather than flicking through the magazine and having to find it themselves.

Stage 5
To complete my contents page, I made all of the text bigger so that it spread across the three columns, and so that the text was bigger so it was readable. I also added a text box to each picture, which contained the heading of the article and the page number. Again, I made the headline a different colour and size from the subheading. This is so that it would stand out.
