The task that I was given in the lesson today was to start the production of my school magazine front cover, which will be done using Adobe Photoshop. I have taken screen grabs to show the progression from the beginning to the final product.
Stage 1
I opened up a blank A4 Photoshop document, and inserted the heading of the magazine - WEATHERHEAD Weekly. I followed the colours that are on the school logo, which are pink (magenta) and purple. I used a simple colour scheme because it looks tidier, rather than having every colour possible on the page.
Stage 2
The next thing I did was insert my main central image, which is of two Sixth Formers walking across the bridge. I was happy with this picture which is why i have used it. The students look happy to be there, smartly dressed and are wearing their identification badges, which is important because other students in other years look up to Sixth Formers as a role model. I then added a barcode and placed it in the bottom right hand corner. I changed the shape and size of the central image and barcode by pressing CTRL and T.
Stage 3
Next I inserted the school logo, barcode and yellow star. I found the logo and yellow star on the internet, I copied them and pasted them onto my magazine. I then used CTRL and T to change the size/shape of each of the images. I also had to use the lasso tool to cut around the yellow star, to remove the white background.
Stage 4
Next, I added the price of the magazine and placed it on top o the yellow star. I did this by creating a text box, typing in my text and placing it over the star. I used a yellow star to display the price because I thought it would catch the readers' attention as yellow is a bright colour.
Stage 5
Next, I typed out my (left hand side) headlines and placed them into position. The main storyline anchors the main image - 'NEW YEAR NEW PUPILS - A day in the life of a sixth former'. This anchors to the main image because I have used a picture which features two Sixth Form students. I made sure that none of my headings/storylines covered the faces of either of the people in the picture. This is important because otherwise you wouldn't be able to see who was in the picture.
Stage 6
Finally, I added my (right hand side) headlines and placed them into position. For each of the storylines, I made sure that the heading was in a bigger/different font than the subheading. This is because the headline needs to stand out to catch the readers' attention, and because they tell the reader what the article/story is about. Again, I made sure that the headlines didn't cover the person face.
