Planning Production

I have now made detailed decisions on what my magazine will look like, and what it will also contain. I have decided on the front cover image(s), the coverlines for the front cover, the text for my contents page and the images I will need for the contents page. I have also decided on the article I am going to write for the double page spread.

FRONT COVER
This is a sketch of what I want my front cover to look like:

IMAGE(S)
I am only having one main central image on the cover. This image is going to be of Becky Byrne. She will be representing the genre of my magazine, which is Indie-Rock. I will be portraying her as a quirky individual who is a new solo artist. She will be emphasising the hippy/festival indie look.

IMAGES
-Becky Byrne
Again, I want to portray her as a unique, quirky and confident individual who is very proud of what she is doing. This will be the largest image on the contents page because this article is the main focus of the magazine. She will be wearing the same clothes as on the front cover, but she will be in a different position. I do not want her having direct eye contact with the reader as I want to show a different side to her.

-Refrain
This image will be the smallest image on the contents page, which is because they have a double page spread article on them. The image will contain the four band members looking away from the camera. Will be an extreme close up only showing from their heads to waistline. This is because I want to emphasise them on the double page spread. Ideally, they will all be wearing very different and unique clothing in order to show that they are a very unique and individual band, unlike any other.

-Jack Evans
This image will be the second smallest on the page. The image will only contain Jack and will be an extreme close up only showing his face. He will be smiling as I want to portray him as being friendly and lovable yet important.

-Jess Sweeney and Mel Edwards (Indie Invasion)
They will be leaning on each other and having direct eye contact with the reader. This will suggest that they are very confident and have a strong relationship with each other, which is exactly how I want them to be portrayed. Ideally, I want them to be wearing very casual clothing as I want to portray them as a very natural and casual band.

-Helen Mahoney
She will be the only one in the image. This enables her to be the centre of attention in this particular image. She will be wearing very indie-style clothing, ideally a leather jacket and jeans.

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD ARTICLE
Article is about the band Refrain. They are a very unique, individual, quirky and fun loving band and I want to ensure that this is exactly how I portray them to the reader. On my double page spread, through the images I want to create the effect of snap shots during their band practice session.

This is a picture of what I want my double page spread to look like:

IMAGES FOR DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
My double page spread will contain 7 images in order to create the snap shot effect that I want.

-Main Image
will be of the four band members standing together, which will be placed on the right hand side page. It is the largest image on the double page spread and will cover half of the page. In the image, the band members will all be pulling different faces (e.g. tongue out). This is to show their fun loving side to the reader. Also, I would like them to be in different coloured clothing to show their quirkiness and individuality.

-Other Images
The 6 other images will be displayed around the main image, and will be different in size. For example, the two images directly under the main image are the same size, but the 3 images directly alongside the main image are again a different size. I want the images to be different sizes and I think it emphasises the snap shot effect and also adds variety and quirkiness to the page. (Each band member will have their own image).

TEXT FOR DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
I will be displaying my text as questions and answers. I have done this because I think it is easier and quicker to read, but also I would like the images to be the centre of attention and I think they represent the band better than the text.

For example:
What are your names, and what are your positions in the band?
Steve: Vocals
Kaan: Bass
Jake: Drums
Peter: Bass
